A mobile court has fined Venice Ice Cream Factory Tk 2 lakh for violating food safety regulations during an inspection in the capital’s Basabo area.
The mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate Anupam Das Anup, conducted the drive at the factory located at 30/20 Kusumbagh Dakshinbagh in Basabo, Sabujbagh, Dhaka, on Tuesday.
During the operation, the authorities found various types of ice cream being produced in an unhygienic environment, according to officials.
Although the factory operates under the name Venus, officials found ice cream being produced and stored for sale with labels bearing the names “Danish” and “7UP”.
The inspection team also found expired vanilla flavour stored at the facility. Fish and meat were also found being kept in the storage area designated for ice cream, officials said.
The factory authorities also failed to produce updated trade and fire licences as well as a valid Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) certificate during the inspection.
Following the admission of the offences, the mobile court fined the factory Tk 2 lakh under the Safe Food Act, 2013. The fine was collected immediately.
Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, a food safety inspector, along with other support staff of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and a team of Battalion Ansar members, were present during the operation.
