The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined Arts of Pia, a business in Chakbazar, Chattogram, Tk 50,000 for selling local fabric as foreign-made and committing multiple consumer rights violations.
The raid was conducted on Monday (September 22) by Mohammad Foyez Ullah, Deputy Director of DNCRP Chattogram.
Foyez Ullah said, “We received complaints that the business had taken online orders but failed to deliver the products or refund the charges. Attempts to contact them by phone were unsuccessful, so we visited the market directly. Upon inspection, we found that the shop was selling lawn fabric claiming it was Pakistani, but they could not provide any proof of its origin.”
He added, “They were misleading consumers by passing off domestic products as foreign. Additionally, the shop was selling oil, soap, ghee, and other items without BSTI approval, and some products lacked proper labeling. For these consumer rights violations, a fine of Tk 50,000 has been imposed. The business will remain under monitoring, and strict legal action will be taken if such violations occur again.”
The operation was also attended by DNCRP Chattogram Assistant Directors Mohammad Anishur Rahman and Mahmuda Akter.
