The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined a paint manufacturing factory Tk 200,000 for producing and marketing paint products without obtaining the required government approvals and certifications.
The factory, named Silver Paints, was also instructed to suspend its production activities until it secures the necessary licenses and authorizations.
The drive was conducted on Sunday afternoon in the capital at the Hatirjheel area by a special DNCRP team led by Deputy Director Nayan Kumar Saha and Assistant Director Md. Abdus Salam of the agency’s Dhaka divisional office.
According to officials involved in the operation, the factory had allegedly been producing and marketing various types of industrial paints for nearly a decade without approval from the relevant authorities. Investigators also found that the company used different foreign-sounding brand names to attract customers.
Although the products were packaged for sale, officials said no retail prices were printed on the containers, violating consumer protection regulations. Authorities also described the factory’s chemical storage and production system as unsafe and potentially hazardous.
“We imposed a fine of Tk 200,000 under several sections of the Consumer Rights Protection Act,” said Nayan Kumar Saha. “The factory has been warned considering the potential risks to public health and the environment.”
He added that drives against businesses operating in violation of regulations would continue.
During the same operation, another company named Rawa Drinking Water was fined Tk 50,000 for producing bottled drinking water in an unhygienic environment and allegedly collecting contaminated water from a general supply line before marketing it as safe drinking water.
