The Khulna divisional office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, along with its district offices, conducted coordinated inspections across the region through 11 teams, imposing fines totaling Tk1,38,500 on various businesses for violating consumer rights.
On Monday, a team led by Deputy Director Mohammad Selim fined Popular Bakery Tk5,000 in Banorgati Market, Sonadanga, Khulna, for failing to supply products properly. Another team under Assistant Director Pronab Kumar Pramanik fined Muslim Mishtighor Tk1,000 and Osman Bakery Tk2,000 for improper packaging, while Allahar Dan Fol Ghar and Kenakata Shop were fined Tk500 and Tk1,000 respectively for failing to display price lists.
In Satkhira, under Assistant Director Md Mehedi Hasan Tanvir, Jannani Cosmetics was fined Tk4,000 for improper packaging, and Alif Store received a Tk1,000 fine for storing and selling expired products.
In Kushtia, a team led by Assistant Director Md Masum Ali fined Maer Doa Hotel Tk3,000 and Bismillah Hotel Tk2,000 for producing food through illegal methods. In Jessore, Bhola Nath Store and SD Store were fined Tk10,000 and Tk15,000 respectively for improper packaging.
In Khulna, Chaynika Pharmacy was fined Tk8,000 for storing and selling expired medicine. In Magura, Messrs Saha Traders and Messrs Rajib Traders were fined Tk20,000 and Tk10,000 respectively for failing to supply proper products and selling expired goods.
In Jhinaidah, Lokman Bakery was fined Tk7,000 for illegal food production. In Chuadanga, Messrs Almighir Enterprise was fined Tk30,000 for endangering consumer safety, and Messrs Jannani Pharmacy Tk5,000 for selling expired medicine.
In Narail, Bismillah Pharmacy was fined Tk5,000 for storing and selling expired medicine, while in Bagerhat, Ma Bakery and Fakirhat Poultry were fined Tk8,000 and Tk1,000 respectively for illegal production and selling expired goods.
During the operations, business owners were advised to display price lists prominently, preserve purchase and sales vouchers, sell products at fixed prices, and comply with proper packaging standards to ensure consumer safety and rights.
