A bakery in Rajshahi city was fined Tk 10,000 on Sunday for producing and selling biscuits and bread without obtaining the required quality certification from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).

A mobile court, conducted by the BSTI Divisional Office in Rajshahi at around 11:30am, found Alamin Food Products in the Chotobongram area operating without the mandatory BSTI quality certification and producing food items in an extremely unhygienic environment.

The mobile court was led by Md Shahriar Islam Nasif, assistant commissioner and executive magistrate of the Rajshahi District Administration.

Engineer Junaid Ahmed, an officer of the Certification Marks Wing of the BSTI Divisional Office, Rajshahi, acted as the prosecution representative during the drive.

Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police were also present.

BSTI officials said regular drives would continue in Rajshahi as part of efforts to prevent food adulteration and ensure the availability of safe and quality food products for consumers.

The authorities also urged food producers and sellers to comply with mandatory quality and safety standards.
