A mobile court conducted by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined a sweet shop Tk 15,000 in Rajshahi city today for producing and selling dairy products without mandatory BSTI certification and proper product labelling.
The drive, conducted around 11:30am by BSTI’s Rajshahi Divisional Office, found that Shamim Sweets, located near the Shaheb Bazar Big Mosque, had been manufacturing and marketing sweetmeats and fermented milk products (yogurt) without obtaining the required BSTI certification mark.
The establishment was also found selling products without labels containing mandatory information, including the date of manufacture, expiry date, and other essential details, in violation of relevant regulations.
The mobile court was led by Md Shahriar Islam Nasif, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Rajshahi District Administration.
Engineer Junayed Ahmed, an official of the Certification Marks Wing of BSTI’s Rajshahi Divisional Office, acted as the prosecutor during the drive.
Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police assisted in the operation.
BSTI said such enforcement drives would continue regularly to curb food adulteration and ensure the supply of quality food products in the interest of consumers.
