The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined Eagle Paribahan and Alhamra Paribahan for failing to display bus fare charts at visible places at their counters.

The drive was conducted on Saturday noon at several bus counters in the Abdullahpur area of the capital. The operation was led by Assistant Director of the DNCRP’s Dhaka Divisional Office Md. Abdul Jabbar Mondol and Assistant Director of the Dhaka District Office Muhammad Hasanuzzaman.

The consumer rights body said it has been carrying out monitoring drives to prevent overcharging of passengers ahead of the upcoming Eid travel rush.

During the inspection, officials found that fare charts fixed by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) were not displayed at visible places at many counters operating on different routes. In some cases, fare charts were not available at all.

According to the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, fare charts must be displayed in a visible place for passengers.

For the violation, Eagle Paribahan and Alhamra Paribahan were each fined Tk 2,000. Several other bus operators, including Soudia Paribahan and Shyamoli Paribahan, were also warned during the drive.
