Two businesses in the capital’s Kaptan Bazar have been fined Tk 60,000 for selling counterfeit Lysol floor cleaner, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) said on Monday.
The fine was imposed during a drive conducted in the area following a tip-off.
The operation was led by Mohammad Hasanuzzaman, head of the DNCRP’s Dhaka District Office and an assistant director, along with Assistant Director Indrani Roy.
During the drive, officials found the two businesses selling counterfeit Lysol-branded floor cleaner. The shop owners failed to provide valid purchase receipts or satisfactory information about the source of the products, officials said.
Under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, one business was fined Tk 40,000 and the other Tk 20,000.
The counterfeit Lysol products stocked at the shops were also destroyed during the drive.
Speaking after the operation, Hasanuzzaman said the DNCRP remained firm in its efforts to curb counterfeit products.
“We are conducting regular drives across the country. Legal action, including fines, is being taken against businesses involved in selling counterfeit products,” he said.
He added that such drives would continue to protect consumers and prevent the distribution of counterfeit products in the market.
