Two cosmetics shops in Rajshahi were fined a total of Tk 1 lakh on Thursday for selling and distributing products without clearance from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
A mobile court conducted the drive at around 12:30pm in the city’s New Market area, according to the BSTI divisional office in Rajshahi.
During the operation, Queens Park and KC Bazar, both located at Theme Omar Plaza near New Market, were found selling cosmetics without the required BSTI clearance.
The shops were fined Tk 50,000 each, bringing the total fine to Tk 1 lakh.
The mobile court was led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Rahatul Karim Mizan.
BSTI Certification Marks Wing officer Engineer Junaid Ahmed acted as the prosecution officer during the drive.
Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police were also present.
BSTI officials said such drives would continue regularly to prevent the sale of counterfeit and adulterated products and ensure the availability of quality goods in the market.
