The Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection (DNCRP) fined 80 businesses a total of Tk 8.18 lakh during market monitoring operations across Dhaka and 32 districts on Thursday.

The drives were conducted to monitor the prices of essential commodities and prevent consumer rights violations, according to the DNCRP.

Teams inspected markets and business establishments to check whether price lists were properly displayed and to prevent manipulation in weights and measures. They also looked for expired products and medicines, as well as counterfeit and adulterated goods.

A total of 61 teams of the directorate conducted the operations across Dhaka and 32 districts, the DNCRP said.

The teams also distributed leaflets and pamphlets among consumers and traders and provided instructions through loudspeakers to raise awareness about consumer rights and lawful business practices.

Members of law enforcement agencies, health inspectors, representatives of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), and representatives of relevant trade and business associations assisted the DNCRP teams during the inspections.

The directorate said such market monitoring activities would continue as part of its efforts to protect consumers and ensure fair business practices.
