The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted market monitoring drives across Dhaka metropolitan area and 47 districts across the country on Sunday, targeting price manipulation, expired products, adulteration and irregularities in weights and measures.

The drives focused on monitoring the prices of essential commodities and ensuring that businesses properly displayed price lists. Officials also inspected shops and markets to prevent the sale of expired goods and medicines, as well as the production and sale of counterfeit and adulterated products.

A total of 309 teams conducted the drives, fining and collecting Tk 924,700 from 94 businesses for various violations, according to the directorate.

As part of efforts to raise consumer awareness, officials distributed leaflets and pamphlets among consumers and traders and issued instructions through loudspeakers on compliance with consumer protection laws.

Members of law enforcement agencies, health inspectors, representatives of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), and representatives of relevant trade and business associations assisted the directorate’s teams during the operations.

The nationwide drives were carried out simultaneously at the divisional and district levels, including in Dhaka metropolitan area.
