Roza bakery in Rajshahi has been fined Tk 10,000 for producing and selling decorated birthday cakes without obtaining the required quality certification from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
A mobile court conducted by the BSTI divisional office in Rajshahi on Monday found the bakery operating in an unhygienic environment and using non-food-grade ingredients in the production of decorated cakes.
The fined establishment, Roza Bakery, is located in the BSCIC Industrial Estate area of Rajshahi city.
The mobile court was led by Farhana Hossain, assistant commissioner and executive magistrate of Rajshahi district administration. BSTI Rajshahi’s Certification Marks Wing officer Engineer Junaid Ahmed acted as the prosecutor.
Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police were also present during the drive.
BSTI officials said such drives would continue regularly in Rajshahi as part of efforts to prevent adulteration and ensure the supply of safe and quality food products to consumers.
