Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) watchdog has fined Nabisco Biscuit and Bread Factory Ltd Tk200,000 for marketing biscuit products that weighed less than the amount declared on their packaging and for displaying inconsistent weight information on the same package.

The fine was imposed on Sunday during a mobile court operation conducted by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) in the Tejgaon Industrial Area. The operation was led by BSTI Executive Magistrate Lutfunnesa Khanom.

During the inspection, officials examined several biscuit products manufactured by the company and found that the actual weight of the products was lower than the weight stated on the packaging. The mobile court also found that the front and back of the same package displayed different and potentially misleading weight information, which could confuse consumers.

BSTI said the irregularities violated the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 2018.

The mobile court directed the company to ensure that all products are manufactured, sold, and marketed in accordance with the weight declared on their packaging. It also warned that stricter legal action would be taken if similar violations are repeated in the future.
