The widespread rumors have emerged amid uncertainty and internal friction within the women’s national football team, that the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is quietly closing in on a deal with French coach Eric Meyer.

According to a source close to the BFF, Eric is expected to step in as an interim head coach to stabilize the camp in the absence of Peter Butler, who returned to England late last month for medical evaluations.

The source also informed this reporter on Saturday that Eric could arrive in Dhaka early next week before heading to Chattogram to take over the ongoing training camp at the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ).

The rumored short-term appointment comes amid reports of a growing divide among the coaching panel.

Sources indicate that remote instructions sent by Peter via WhatsApp are creating communication gaps and confusion over responsibilities between assistant coaches Abul Hossain and Lina Chakma, leaving the setup struggling for coordination.

While the BFF has yet to officially confirm Eric’s arrival, BFF insiders hint that the UEFA A Licence holder is being brought in to take charge of preparations for the upcoming FIFA international friendlies against Singapore on 1 and 5 December.

Whether Eric’s role will extend beyond the Singapore tour remains unconfirmed, as the federation continues to monitor Peter’s medical situation.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh women are scheduled to play Singapore on 1 and 5 December in two FIFA international friendlies.

The matches will provide an important test for the team, currently ranked 106th in the FIFA women’s rankings, against Singapore, who are ranked 147th.

The 44-member squad moved to Chattogram from Dhaka on 30 October for an intensive training camp.

The team is scheduled to return to the capital on 16 November before attending the SAFF Championship final at the National Stadium on 17 November.

Regular training will resume at the same venue on 19 November.

Eric is expected to take charge during this crucial phase as the coaching staff works towards trimming the squad to 23 players for the Singapore tour.
