Actor Mithun Chakraborty has been a powerhouse in Bengali and Hindi cinema for decades, delivering memorable performances from Mrigaya to the recent Kabuliowala. At 75, his talent remains unquestionable, but questions often arise about his temperament—does he get angry on set, and do directors face challenges while working with him?
Director Raj Chakraborty, who worked with Mithun on the 2024 film Santan, recently answered these questions. The film, starring Mithun, Subhashree, and Ritwik, provided Raj with a unique experience of working with the veteran actor.
In an interview with an Indian media outlet, Raj spoke candidly about the experience. He said, “When you work with a veteran actor, you need to do your homework. If you appear confused on the floor, he will notice. Technically, he is extremely strong.”
Highlighting Mithun’s acting skills, Raj added, “Mithun Chakraborty is a one-take actor. He gives a single take, and if you want multiple takes, you have to explain why and justify it. Otherwise, he won’t do it.”
Praising the actor further, Raj said, “In all the time he has worked, I have never seen him angry. He works spontaneously. Even after a scene is over, he doesn’t leave immediately. He stays on set, standing beside other actors, delivering the same emotion as they perform. Calling him moody would be completely wrong.”
