Actress Mehzabin Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury have been granted bail after surrendering to the court.

On Sunday, the Executive Magistrate Court-3 in Dhaka, presided over by Judge Afroza Tania, approved their bail following a hearing. Both siblings appeared in court and surrendered, with their lawyer Tuhin Howlader applying for bail on their behalf.

Earlier, the siblings were accused of embezzling BDT 2.7 million from plaintiff Amirul Islam under the pretext of including him as a partner in a family business. They were also alleged to have threatened and intimidated him. In connection with the case, the court had issued arrest warrants against them on November 10. Amirul Islam confirmed the issuance of the warrants on Sunday.

According to the plaintiff, although the defendants were scheduled to appear in court on November 10, they failed to do so, prompting the court to issue the arrest warrants. The court has set December 18 to submit a report on the execution of the warrants.

The case details state that, over a period of time, Amirul Islam transferred BDT 2.7 million to Mehzabin Chowdhury through cash and mobile payments, under the assurance that he would be made a partner in her family business. However, Mehzabin and her brother allegedly did not initiate any business activities, and repeatedly delayed repayment, giving excuses such as “I will pay today or tomorrow.”

On February 11, when Amirul went to collect the money, he was asked to meet them at a restaurant near Hatirjheel Road on March 16. There, Mehzabin, her brother, and four or five unidentified individuals reportedly verbally abused him and threatened his life, saying, “Don’t come to our house asking for money again. If we see you near the house, we’ll kill you.”

Following this, Amirul filed a case at the Executive Magistrate Court in Dhaka on March 24.

Meanwhile, actress Mehzabin Chowdhury has dismissed the arrest warrant news on social media. She wrote on Facebook, “Baseless news about a case involving my name is being circulated online. I request all my journalist colleagues to refrain from publishing unverified and false reports.”
