Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, has confirmed that the verdict in the human rights violation case involving Sheikh Hasina and other accused will be delivered on November 17. He said the court has formally informed all parties, and law enforcement agencies have completed preparations to prevent any disorder or untoward incidents.
Chowdhury made the remarks on Saturday while responding to journalists during an official visit to the Patuakhali Circuit House.
He also stated that the national parliamentary elections are expected to be held in early February, before Ramadan. “The Election Commission will announce the official date, and law enforcement and administrative bodies are fully prepared. The public and political parties are ready, and candidates have already been declared. The elections will be conducted peacefully,” he said.
According to the adviser, once the election schedule is announced, administrative transfers will take place through a lottery system. Law enforcement will carry out special operations five days before, on the polling day, and three days after the election. A total of 100,000 army personnel, 150,000 police, 35,000 Border Guards, 5,000 Navy, 4,000 Coast Guard, 8,000 RAB members, and 550,000 Ansar volunteers will be deployed for election security.
Earlier, Chowdhury inspected the Patuakhali Coast Guard base and district police lines before departing for Kuakata, where he visited the tourist police and naval police camp in the afternoon.
