The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has rolled out a pilot project, appointing former women cricketers as Security Liaison Officers (SLOs), marking a significant shift in match-day operations.
Ad-hoc committee member Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed highlighted the importance of the role, stating, “You may not usually see them in front of the camera or on television, but their role is very important.” He stressed that ensuring spectator safety remains paramount during matches.Ahmed added, “During a match, security is the most important issue. If spectators come to the venue and they feel insecure, this is not desirable in any way.”
Breaking from tradition, where SLO roles were exclusively held by men, the BCB Security Department has now turned to women with cricketing backgrounds. “We have now started a project as a pilot project… we are now appointing them as SLOs in the pilot phase,” he said.
The initiative also aims to reconnect former players with the sport. “These are the individuals who… could no longer prolong their cricketing careers,” Ahmed noted.
Among the first appointees are Alifa Hossain and Rimu Paul, with hopes the programme will expand further in the coming days.
