BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has accused the ruling government of adopting authoritarian practices that have deprived Bangladeshis of their voting rights since coming to power in 2008. He also criticised the administration for neglecting the development of many regions, highlighting that no medical college has been established in Moulvibazar over the past 15 years.
Speaking as the chief guest at a massive election rally held at Ainpur Field in Sherpur, Moulvibazar Sadar on Thursday (January 22), Tarique said the lack of a medical college in the district was not just negligence but a betrayal of the people’s lives.
“In the past decade and a half, Moulvibazar has not seen the establishment of a single medical college, which reflects the extreme neglect of the ruling authorities toward this region,” he said. “The government has failed completely in providing essential healthcare services. Even today, residents of Moulvibazar have to travel to Sylhet or Dhaka for medical treatment, risking time, money, and even their lives. Despite being in power for so long, the government has not built a full-fledged medical college here.”
Tarique pledged that if the BNP returns to power, the party will ensure citizens’ right to healthcare in every district. “We will prioritise establishing modern healthcare institutions, including medical colleges, in neglected and underdeveloped areas,” he said.
The rally was organised by the Moulvibazar district BNP and chaired by district convener Fayzul Karim Mayun. Naser Rahman, BNP candidate for Moulvibazar-3, attended as a special guest.
Central and local BNP leaders were also present, expressing solidarity with Tarique Rahman’s statements and actively helping ensure the success of the rally.
