General members of Rajshahi City Christian Co-operative Credit Union Limited formed a human chain, alleging embezzlement, financial fraud, audit report tampering, and recruitment through forged certificates by the institution’s current Board of Directors.
The demonstration was held on Wednesday (June 17) in front of the Credit Union’s office premises in Rajshahi city. The program was chaired by union member Julian Biswas.
Participants in the human chain alleged that the current board and several officials have been involved in financial irregularities for a long time. They accused them of fund misappropriation, embezzlement, administrative mismanagement, recruitment trade, and concealing financial information from members.
Speaking at the event, Andreas Biswas alleged that a manager had been appointed using forged academic certificates. He further claimed that audit reports had been altered and tampered with in an effort to mislead members. Demonstrators said they possess specific evidence supporting these allegations but claimed that no effective action has been taken so far.
Member Mili Dhoni alleged that an organized group within the Credit Union has been carrying out financial irregularities for years.
“Members have no clear idea where their money is going. We believe information is being concealed to cover up the looting of the union’s funds,” she said.
Another member, Cyril Murmu, alleged that forged certificates, recruitment trade, and abuse of power have turned the institution into a “hub of corruption.”
“If these allegations are not properly investigated, ordinary members will completely lose confidence in the institution,” he said.
Victim member Momin Marandi alleged that attempts had been made to conceal the actual financial condition of the organization by interfering with audit reports.
“We believe these irregularities are not isolated incidents but part of a planned effort to mislead members. If a proper investigation is not conducted immediately, we will pursue legal action and launch a larger movement,” he said.
During the program, leaders presented a six-point demand, including:
Immediate resignation of the current Board of Directors and officials accused of wrongdoing.
Formation of an ad hoc committee to oversee the next election.
Return of all allegedly embezzled funds to the Credit Union’s treasury.
Removal of the manager allegedly appointed through recruitment irregularities.
Legal action against those involved in audit fraud and report tampering.
Temporary suspension of the recruitment notice issued by the current board.
Other speakers warned that if the allegations are not independently investigated and the demands are not implemented promptly, they will announce tougher protest programs in the coming days.
Attempts were made several times to contact Subash Marandi, General Secretary of the current Board of Directors, over the allegations. However, he could not be reached for comment.
