The Cox’s Bazar district police have strengthened a four-tier security system across the district ahead of New Year’s Eve, with heightened surveillance and checkpoints at key locations in the town.

Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Biswas, spokesperson for the Cox’s Bazar district police, confirmed the measures on Tuesday (December 30).

He said police have intensified checkpoints, patrols and intelligence operations at important points in Cox’s Bazar town and across the district in view of New Year’s Eve celebrations.

According to the ASP, strict instructions have been issued to maintain special surveillance at 10 key locations in Cox’s Bazar. All necessary preparations have been taken to ensure the safety of tourists and the general public. As part of the security deployment, two mobile teams, seven patrol teams and four motorcycle teams are currently on duty in the district town.

Cox’s Bazar Traffic Police Sergeant Robayet Hossain said searches have been intensified at various entry points to the town, with a particular focus on suspicious vehicles. Long-distance buses, microbuses and private cars are being checked to prevent anyone from carrying prohibited or harmful items with the intention of disrupting law and order. Where necessary, vehicles are being stopped and passengers’ identities verified. All vehicles entering and leaving the town are under close monitoring, he added.

He also said surveillance has been increased at bus terminals and tourist areas to ensure that visitors and local residents can move around safely.

Ramu Crossing Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Md Nasir Uddin said a large influx of tourists is expected in Cox’s Bazar on New Year’s Eve, and security on highways has been strengthened to ensure smooth and safe movement for travellers arriving by road.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Tourist Police Apel Mahmud said police remain on the highest alert to ensure the overall safety of tourists visiting Cox’s Bazar. Additional police personnel have been deployed at the beach, hotel zones, tourist spots and other important areas. Tourists have been advised to immediately inform the police if they face any form of harassment.
