The Fortune Barishal-DRU Media Cricket 2025 tournament, organized by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and sponsored by Fortune Barishal, is set to begin on 18 November at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium.
This year, 48 media houses will participate in the knockout-style tournament. The teams are divided into eight groups, with the champion of each group advancing to the quarterfinals.
The announcement was made on Saturday (15 November) at a press conference held at the DRU Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium, where DRU Sports Secretary Md. Mojibur Rahman shared details about the tournament.
The event was presided over by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, with welcoming remarks delivered by General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel.
President Akon said, “Despite various challenges, we have organized this cricket tournament keeping the interests of our members in mind. We aim to complete the event in a festive and inclusive atmosphere, bringing everyone together.”
General Secretary Sohel added, “We are hosting this grand tournament to foster camaraderie among our members. Every year, the cricket tournament strengthens the bonds of unity within our community. We hope everyone will actively participate and enjoy this celebration on the field. We also express our gratitude to Fortune Barishal for sponsoring the event.”
Also present at the press briefing were DRU Executive Committee members, including Treasurer Sakhawat Hossain Sumon, Hospitality Secretary Mohammad Salim Ullah (Mejbah), Welfare Secretary Rafiqul Mridha, and Executive Members Aminul Haque Bhuiyan and Sumon Chowdhury.
The group draw for the tournament will be held on Sunday, 16 November 2025, at 11:00 am at the DRU canteen. Each participating team has been requested to send a representative to attend.
