BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that if his party comes to power, ending what he described as “India’s bullying” of Bangladesh will be a top priority.

Speaking on Saturday (15 November) during an inspection of a rubber dam over the Mahananda River in Chapainawabganj, built at a cost of Tk 286 crore, Fakhrul highlighted that issues like Farakka and Teesta water sharing, fair water allocation, and border killings would receive special attention under a BNP government.

“Our country’s interests must come first. Every nation will look after its own interests, and it is the responsibility of the elected government to secure Bangladesh’s rightful claims with the support of the people. Without a legitimately elected government, we lack the authority and strength to do so. We hope that if BNP is elected by the people, these matters will undoubtedly receive the highest priority,” he said.

Fakhrul also criticized the current Indian government, saying, “India is a neighboring country. It can maintain good relations with Bangladesh if it wishes. India assisted us during the 1971 Liberation War and should continue to provide support. Unfortunately, under the Modi government, Bangladesh has been pressured, with everything taken and nothing given in return.”

The BNP Secretary General visited Chapainawabganj to attend a mass rally organized as part of the “Save Padma, Save the Nation; Bangladesh First” campaign. The rally is scheduled to be held later in the day at Nawabganj Government College Ground.
