“Ice Cream”, which marked the film debuts of Sariful Razz, Nazifa Tushi and Kumar Uday, arrives on Chorki at midnight tonight (October 20), a decade after its theatrical release.
Written and directed by Redoan Rony, the film opened in cinemas on April 29, 2016.
Reflecting on her debut, Tushi recalled entering the industry with little understanding of filmmaking.
“I stepped into cinema without knowing or understanding how vast a canvas it was. I knew nothing about the industry. All I knew was that I wanted to act,” she said.
“At the time, very few alternative films were being made outside the FDC. I felt ‘Ice Cream’ was a good film and Redoan Rony was a good director. I was young, and that was enough for me to think I could do it. I understood so much more after making ‘Ice Cream’. It amazes me to think about how I made that film and how 10 years have already passed.”
Razz also looked back on the film’s role in shaping his career.
“There are certainly differences between the Razz of 10 years ago and who I am today. But ‘Ice Cream’ laid the foundation that helped me reach where I am now,” he said.
“The rehearsals, the nervousness behind the camera, Redoan Rony bhai’s guidance and the moments on set are still vivid. Through ‘Ice Cream’ on Chorki, viewers will get to see my early days and the passion with which I first stood before the camera. It feels truly surreal.”
At the time of the film’s theatrical release, an emotional Razz had said, “I have struggled a great deal to reach this point in my life. I am grateful to Rony bhai.”
Explaining the title, Rony, who also wrote the film’s story, screenplay and dialogue, had said, “I wanted to tell a story about a relationship, and a relationship is like ice cream—it needs to be kept at a particular temperature.”
The soundtrack features vocals by Arnob, Armeen Musa, Sharmin Sultana Sumi and Minar Rahman. The cast also includes ATM Shamsuzzaman, Diti, Omar Sani, Sayem Sadat and Nadia Khanam.
