Two people were injured in a clash between rival factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Imamganj Union of Gozaria upazila in Munshiganj.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (17 December) around 3:30 pm in Daulatpur village of Imamganj Union. The injured are Mihad Hossain, 21, son of Md. Shahadat Hossain of Daulatpur, and Md. Al Amin Darzi, 48, son of the late Md. Motaleb Darzi, also a resident of the area.
Mihad, a supporter of BNP nominee Kamruzzaman Raton in Munshiganj-3 constituency, said he was attacked with homemade weapons while leading a procession seeking votes under the BNP’s “Dhaner Sheesh” (rice sheaf) symbol.
Al Amin Darzi, who supports the Mahmud group of BNP and works under district BNP leader Mojibur Rahman, said he was working by a riverbank near his home when about 8–10 people, including Mihad, attacked him and left him injured. He claimed the attack was retaliation for attending various meetings and processions called by Mahmud faction leader Mojibur.
Gozaria police station officer-in-charge Hasan Ali said the police brought the situation under control immediately after receiving the report, but no formal complaint has been filed yet. He added that legal action will be taken if a complaint is submitted.
