Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar on Monday said that the country could witness another mass uprising if the ongoing election-related violence does not stop.

He issued the warning from a protest rally held at the North Gate of Baitul Mukarram around 4:50pm. Afterwards, a protest march to Shahbagh was held.

The Jamaat-led 11-party electoral alliance staged the demonstrations in protest against the repression, violence, arson attacks, vandalism and murder attempts carried out allegedly by the elected BNP and its allies since the 12 February general elections.

Mia Golam Parwar also called on the Election Commission (EC) to swiftly address the complaints of election irregularities the alliance has raised.

Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ameer Mamunul Haque alleged that a “mockery of people’s voting rights” was staged on the election day. While a fair election environment was projected in day-time, “election engineering” was conducted after nightfall, the Islamist leader alleged.

A formerly “oppressed political party” is now itself inflicting violence on the activists of the 11-party alliance across the country, he alleged.

People suffered a bloodbath to oust a fascist regime, and they will resist ongoing attempts to return to fascist governance, Mamunul Haque warned.

If the July Charter is not implemented, people will once again take to the streets, he said.

NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary alleged that “votes were not only stolen, but rather robbed in the elections.” After the elections, violence is continuing, the NCP leader said.

All the post-election violence will be accounted for, Patwary warned, urging the perpetrators to stop such attacks and also extortionism.

The 11-party alliance will maintain presence on the streets and join the parliament as the opposition with “double the force,” Patwary added.

The alliance will push for fair investigation into the murder of Inqilab Moncho Spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, he noted.
