BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital, continues to be in an unchanged condition, party Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP central office, Rizvi said, “The country’s leader Begum Khaleda Zia’s health remains unchanged. Doctors at the hospital are providing round-the-clock care.”
He added, “According to the doctors, her condition has not deteriorated. However, there has not been significant improvement either. Therefore, her condition remains unchanged.”
Expressing hope for her recovery, Rizvi said, “We believe that she will regain her health soon. She will recover, and this is the expectation of millions of people. All nationalist forces and BNP leaders and activists share the same hope. We pray that Allah grants her a speedy recovery.”
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara on the night of 23 November. Doctors had found an infection in her lungs following tests. Earlier, on Thursday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described her condition as “critical.”
Her personal physician, Professor A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, provided an update on her condition last night, stating, “Since Thursday, the BNP Chairperson has been under care in the Critical Care Unit (CCU). Over the past three days—27th, 28th, and 29th—Alhamdulillah, her condition has remained stable. In medical terms, she is able to tolerate the treatment being administered.”
Rizvi also noted that BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, from London, is maintaining continuous communication with doctors, coordinating her treatment, and monitoring her condition closely. “He is anxious and concerned for his mother and is in regular contact with the responsible doctors regarding her care, including potential plans for treatment abroad,” Rizvi said.
Rizvi requested that party supporters refrain from gathering outside Evercare Hospital to ensure a calm environment for her treatment.
The press conference was attended by BNP Organisational Secretary Kazi Syedul Alam Babul, central leaders Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Asadul Karim Shahin, and other party officials.
