Unsettling discovery took place at the Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall night canteen on when students found live insects of fruit fly in their food.On Sunday night, every plate of chicken chap served to four students during the late-night hours crawled with small white insects, identified as fruit fly larvae. This ingredient sparked immediate outrage among the students.
“This was the final straw”, said Wahid, a second-year resident who had previously encountered unhygienic conditions three times. Despite prior complaints, no action followed until this dietary debacle occurred. His batch mate and another resident of the hall, Niloy, confirmed the degraded quality of the canteen.
Other victims, including Niemur Rahman Emon and Nazmus Sakib Adib, expressed their total disgust at the standards of food safety.
Apologising for the mistake, canteen manager Md Sufol, explained that the cucumbers were sliced at noon and the tiny white pests remained invisible against the salad. “The insects blended in perfectly”, he confessed.
Shahidullah hall union outdoor games and sports secretary Tusher Imran pledged on the spot to mass media worker that the canteen would face immediate consequences on Monday.
Hall provost Dr Md Aminul Islam Bhuiyan noted that the canteen operated on a trial basis but remained legally bound to university administration.
