A Jhenaidah court has sentenced a husband to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Parul, also imposing a fine of BDT 20,000, with an additional one-year imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
The verdict was delivered on Wednesday by Judge Md. Emban Hossain Chowdhury of the District and Sessions Judge Court in Jhenaidah. The convicted, Md. Motiar Rahman, is the son of the late Nazer Ali Mondal of Chadba village in Kaliganj upazila.
According to the case record and court sources, on the night of August 10, 2022, during an argument at their home, Motiar Rahman attacked his wife Parul with an iron rod on the veranda, killing her instantly. Following the incident, the victim’s father, Ishak Mondal, filed a murder case at Kaliganj police station.
After evaluating witness testimonies, the court convicted Motiar Rahman under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Motiar Rahman was immediately sent to jail. The case was prosecuted by Public Prosecutor S.M. Moshiur Rahman, while former PP Ismail Hossain and Aklima Yasmin represented the defense.
