Police recovered the body of a missing 15-year-old boy, Nazmul Sarkar, in Sherpur Upazila, Bogura, a day after he went missing.
The body was found on Thursday (October 30) around 10:30 a.m. in a pond at Amai Danga, next to the house of Abu Bakkar Siddique in Goaljani village, Sughata Union.
The deceased, Nazmul Sarkar, was the son of Md. Tozammel Sarkar of Kashiabala village, Mirzapur Union, Sherpur Upazila.
Family sources said Nazmul had been mentally challenged and epileptic since childhood. He often wandered outside the house and would sometimes return after several days. For safety, he was occasionally kept chained at home.
Md. Tozammel Sarkar, the boy’s father, said that Nazmul went out of the house on Wednesday (October 29) after his foot chain was removed. Despite extensive searching by family members, he could not be found. The next morning, locals informed the family that a body was floating in a pond in Goaljani village. The family went to the site and identified the body as Nazmul.
The father added, “My son was mentally challenged and epileptic. It is believed he fell into the pond and died. We have no suspicion or complaint against anyone.”
Sherpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) S.M. Moinuddin said, “The police recovered the teenager’s body from the pond after receiving information from locals. Preliminary investigation suggests it is an accidental death. After completing legal procedures, the body will be handed over to the family.”
