BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition has remained unchanged for the past three days, her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said on Saturday night. He added that she is still able to receive the treatment being administered to her.

Speaking to reporters in front of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area, Dr Zahid—who is also a member of her medical board—said, “Over the last three days, on the 27th, 28th and today, the 29th, her condition has remained at the same stage, Alhamdulillah. In medical terms, she is maintaining the treatment, meaning she is tolerating the therapies being given.”

He called on the countrymen to pray for her recovery, saying, “We urge everyone to pray so that she continues to respond to treatment and recovers.”

Decision on Sending Her Abroad Depends on Medical Board

Commenting on whether Khaleda Zia could be taken abroad for treatment, Dr Zahid said the matter depends entirely on her overall condition and the recommendations of the medical board. “Any decision will be made following the board’s assessment, and you will be informed accordingly,” he said.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23. After initial examinations, doctors confirmed she was suffering from a lung infection. Last Thursday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described her condition as “critical.”

Dr Zahid said, “Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) since the 27th. Her treatment process is being closely monitored by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who has been coordinating with the medical board to ensure no interruption in her care.”

Family and BNP Leaders at Her Side

He said the BNP chief’s family members—including Syeda Shamim Ara Koko, the wife of her late son Arafat Rahman Koko, and her younger brother Shamim Eskander—along with the BNP Secretary General and members of the party’s standing committee, have been regularly assisting with her treatment.

The medical team is also consulting specialists from hospitals in the UK, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, China, and from institutions in the United States such as Johns Hopkins and Mount Sinai, he added.

“We request prayers from the people of Bangladesh and all well-wishers for her recovery,” Dr Zahid said, extending gratitude to the advisers and leaders who urged the nation to pray for her.

Appeal to Avoid Crowding the Hospital

Dr Zahid also urged BNP activists not to crowd the hospital premises, noting that more than 300 other patients are currently admitted to Evercare Hospital and their treatment must not be disrupted.

He added that many world leaders and governments have expressed concern over Khaleda Zia’s health. “The Acting Chairman has conveyed gratitude to all of them and sought continued cooperation,” he said.
