In Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali, unidentified miscreants have destroyed watermelon seedlings on 11 acres of land belonging to farmer Jahangir Bayati (55) in Char Mominpur of Keshabpur Union.
The incident occurred late Friday night (28 November) when the perpetrators entered his land and damaged the crops, causing an estimated loss of around Tk 200,000, the farmer said.
Local sources said Jahangir Bayati had planted watermelon seedlings on a total of 13 acres. The crops were growing well when the miscreants destroyed seedlings on 11 acres of his land.
Jahangir Bayati said, “When I went to tend the field in the morning, I found that someone had destroyed all the seedlings. This has caused me significant financial loss.”
He filed a written complaint with Bauphal police station on Saturday evening.
Bauphal police investigation officer Atikul Islam said the complaint will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action will be taken.
