Two students from Dr. Malika College are taking the lead in promoting cybersecurity awareness and digital safety among their peers, highlighting the growing importance of technology skills beyond traditional academic disciplines.
Arif, a student of the college’s Department of Political Science, serves as president of the Dr. Malika College Cyber Security Club, while fellow student Maruf holds the position of IT head. The club operates as a member institution of the National University Cyber Security Club.
The initiative aims to help students develop a better understanding of digital security, build technical knowledge, and adopt safer online practices as technology becomes increasingly central to everyday life.
Cybersecurity threats, including online fraud, social media account hacking, and the theft of personal information, have become growing concerns for internet users. Weak passwords, suspicious links, and careless online activity can expose individuals to significant risks.
Against this backdrop, the college’s Cyber Security Club seeks to raise awareness of common digital threats and encourage students to take greater responsibility for protecting their personal information and online accounts.
The club also aims to broaden students’ learning opportunities beyond the classroom by encouraging an interest in information technology and cybersecurity. Its association with the National University Cyber Security Club provides an institutional platform for advancing these goals.
Arif’s and Maruf’s leadership is particularly notable, as both study political science rather than a technology-related subject. Their involvement highlights how students from different academic backgrounds can develop technical interests and contribute to digital awareness initiatives.
As Bangladesh continues to embrace digital services, cybersecurity awareness is becoming increasingly important for students and other internet users. Initiatives such as the one at Dr. Malika College could help equip young people with the knowledge and habits needed to navigate the digital world more safely.
Through its activities, the club hopes to encourage a more informed and responsible student community while helping young people prepare for the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly technology-driven future.
