The interim government has described the death sentences handed down to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for crimes against humanity as a historic ruling. Recognizing the significance of the verdict, the government has called on citizens across the country to remain calm, responsible, and law-abiding.

In a statement posted Monday (17 November) on the verified Facebook page of the Chief Adviser, the government urged people to refrain from any acts of disorder, violence, or lawbreaking in the aftermath of the tribunal’s ruling. The statement acknowledged that the long-awaited verdict may naturally evoke strong emotions, particularly among families of those martyred during the July uprising, but emphasized that no one should allow these emotions to disrupt public order.

The government warned that any attempt to create chaos or disturb law and order will be dealt with strictly.

The statement comes following the International Crimes Tribunal’s decision to implement the death sentences for Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for crimes committed during the mass killings of July–August 2024. Additionally, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who had testified as a key prosecution witness after admitting his own role, was sentenced to five years in prison.
