The Election Commission (EC) has officially added a new symbol, ‘Shapla Kali’ to its list of election symbols and published it in the gazette.
The new symbol has been assigned number 102 in the list released on Thursday, October 30. The gazette was signed by Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the EC.
Earlier, on Monday, October 27, at a press conference held at the EC office in Agargaon, Dhaka, Akhtar Ahmed stated that the ‘Shapla’ symbol was not included in the EC’s existing guidelines, making it impossible to allocate the symbol to the National Citizen Party (NCP). He also said that the commission would determine a new symbol at its discretion and publish it in the gazette.
