The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) said the decision was taken due to a rise in the price of pure gold in the international market.
According to Bajus, the new rates were finalised unanimously at a meeting of its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Tuesday morning and became effective nationwide from 10:30am.
Gold prices per gram
As per the Bajus notification, the prices of gold ornaments are as follows:

22-carat (hallmarked) gold: Tk21,535

21-carat (hallmarked) gold: Tk17,620
-
18-carat (hallmarked) gold: Tk14,420
-
Traditional gold: Tk545
Silver prices per gram
The new prices of silver ornaments are:
Bajus said all jewellery shops across the country must sell gold and silver at the revised rates until further notice.
Jewellers have also been instructed to collect the government-set 5% VAT from customers and deposit it to the state treasury.
