The electricity situation in Bangladesh is set to improve as the inoperative unit of India’s Jharkhand-based Adani power plant is set to resume operations by April 26, while several other coal-fired plants are expected to increase production by early May, raising overall supply, said Power Division Joint Secretary Umme Rehana today.“Adani may resume operations by April 26, SS Power by April 28, and RNPL by the first week of May,” Umme Rehana said during a briefing.
She said that the government is expecting 1,982MW from coal by the first week of May.
Currently the country is facing fuel crisis, including coal, gas and furnace oil. Some coal fired plants are producing electricity at half of their capacities. They are — India’s Adani power, Chattogram’s SS power, and Patuakhali’s RNPL. Of them, Adani reduced power production due to technical glitches and others due to coal shortages.
Adani’s production had dropped since 2:00am yesterday.
Bangladesh’s national production was 14,190MW as of 12:00pm today against the demand of 15,902 MW.
