Following the August 5 student-led uprising and the fall of the fascist Awami League government, calls for police reform and a change in uniforms gained momentum. After the July mass protests, rank-and-file police officers also demanded updates to their current attire.

In response to these demands, the interim government at the beginning of this year approved a uniform change for the Bangladesh Police, RAB, and Ansar forces.

As part of this initiative, starting Saturday, November 15, officers of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and all metropolitan and specialized units nationwide have begun wearing the new uniforms while on duty. District-level police have not yet received the new attire but will be issued the uniforms in phases.

The new uniform for metropolitan police is iron-colored, and specialized units including the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Tourist Police, Highway Police, and Naval Police will also wear the same design.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media & Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told reporters that the new uniforms have officially been launched in all major cities and will be gradually distributed to all police personnel across the country.
