Iran has granted passage to six Bangladesh-flagged vessels that were stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi announced during a press conference at the embassy in Dhaka on Tuesday.
“We informed Tehran about the six ships, and Iran’s National Security Council has approved assistance for these vessels,” the ambassador stated. He explained that initial identification challenges arose due to insufficient ship specifications, which Bangladesh provided last week.
Jahanabadi assured that Iranian authorities are actively facilitating the ships’ movement and pledged full cooperation. “There is no problem regarding the movement of Bangladeshi ships. We will extend full cooperation in this regard,” he said.
The diplomatic development comes amid strained relations following Bangladesh’s recent statement on the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. The ambassador expressed Tehran’s dissatisfaction, stating that Iran expected stronger condemnation of what it termed “aggressive forces” from Bangladesh.
