Several foreign dignitaries are set to travel to Dhaka to pay their respects at the final rites of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will arrive in Dhaka as a representative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the ceremonies. The decision was announced on Tuesday (December 30) by the Indian government.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is also scheduled to reach Dhaka on Wednesday to attend Khaleda Zia’s janaza. In addition, Bhutan’s Foreign Minister and a minister from the Maldives are expected to arrive in the capital to pay their respects. Preparations have been made to receive these international dignitaries.
Khaleda Zia had been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka since November 23. Her condition had been critical, and she had been going through a prolonged period of medical complications. After 40 days of treatment, doctors declared her dead early Tuesday morning at 6:00 am. She was 80 years old at the time of her passing.
