After days of cloudy skies with little rainfall, heavy rain finally hit the port city on Tuesday, submerging most low-lying areas and causing widespread suffering for residents.
The downpour began around 12:00pm with thunder and lightning. The intensity of the rain was so strong that the surroundings turned dark. The rain continued for more than an hour, flooding roads and alleys with knee- to waist-deep water.According to Zahidul Islam, a forecasting officer at the Patenga Meteorological Office, rainfall is expected to continue. He said the rain increased after noon and may persist until Wednesday.
