The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has raised gold prices in the local market once again, setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk244,710 per bhori.

The new rates will come into effect from 10am on Tuesday, according to a notification signed by Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, chairman of Bajus’ Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.

Bajus said the adjustment was made in line with rising prices of pure gold and silver in the international market. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the committee held at 9:15am on Tuesday.

Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold has been priced at Tk233,571 per bhori. In terms of grams, 22-carat hallmarked gold ornaments will cost Tk20,980 per gram, 21-carat Tk20,025, and 18-carat Tk17,165.

Previously, on Saturday, Bajus had set the price of 22-carat gold at Tk241,444 per bhori. The latest revision marks an increase of Tk3,266 per bhori.

The association said the new prices will remain effective at all jewellery outlets nationwide until further notice. However, a 5% value-added tax (VAT) will be applicable on gold ornaments, which must be collected from buyers and deposited with the government.
