A massive fire that broke out at a plastic factory in Islambagh, Old Dhaka, has been brought under control, according to the Fire Service. No casualties have been reported so far.

Fire Service Deputy Director Mohammad Saleh Uddin briefed journalists on Wednesday (17 December), confirming that the blaze, which started around 1:30 pm near Chairman Ghat, had been contained.

Eleven Fire Service units responded to the emergency after local residents initially tried to control the fire themselves. Thick black smoke engulfed the area in the early stages, making firefighting efforts challenging.

The cause of the fire, as well as the extent of damage, is yet to be fully determined. Eyewitnesses suspect the fire may have started from a gas cylinder leak in the rear part of the building. Locals also said the warehouse was 18–20 years old.
