A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed to be shown arrested in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by ACC Assistant Director Zakir Hossain.According to the petition, Nuruzzaman Ahmed and his wife, Hosne Ara Begum, allegedly amassed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income and conducted suspicious and unusual transactions through bank accounts in their names.

They allegedly tried to transfer, convert, and conceal illegally obtained money and assets to hide their unlawful sources.

The petition said it was necessary to show him arrested in this case, as Nuruzzaman is currently in jail.

On 30 January 2025, Nuruzzaman was arrested in Rangpur city and has remained in custody since then.
