The Election Commission (EC) has backtracked from its decision to ban people from keeping mobile phones within 400 yards of polling centres during the election and referendum slated to be held on 12 February.
On Monday afternoon, Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed verbally confirmed the withdrawal of decision during consultations with journalists at the Election Bhaban.
The EC would issue a notification in this regard shortly, Akhtar Ahmed told reporters.
Earlier, a leader of a journalist association quoted Akhtar as saying that media personnel would be exempted from the ban, which was imposed Sunday only four days before the election day.
