The Election Commission (EC) has upheld the candidacy of National Citizen Party (NCP) nominee Hasnat Abdullah in the Comilla-4 constituency, rejecting an appeal filed against his nomination.
The decision was announced on Saturday (January 17) following an appeal hearing held at the Election Commission auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka. With the commission dismissing the appeal, the returning officer’s earlier decision declaring Hasnat Abdullah’s nomination valid remains in force.
On the same day, the EC cancelled the nomination of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi in the Comilla-4 seat after allegations of loan default were found to be substantiated.
During the hearing, the appeal submitted by BNP candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi challenging Hasnat Abdullah’s candidacy was deemed unacceptable by the commission, clearing the way for Hasnat Abdullah to contest the election.
Earlier, Hasnat Abdullah had filed an appeal with the EC seeking the cancellation of Manjurul Ahsan Munshi’s nomination on grounds of loan default.
