The Election Commission (EC) has cancelled the nomination of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi in Comilla-4, the constituency contested by Hasnat Abdullah, citing allegations of loan default.
The decision was announced on Saturday (January 17) following a hearing held at around 4:00pm at the Basement-2 auditorium of the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Earlier, Hasnat Abdullah—candidate of the National Citizen Party (NCP) from the same constituency—had filed an appeal with the EC, seeking the cancellation of Manjurul Ahsan Munshi’s nomination on grounds of loan default.
After reviewing the appeal and conducting the hearing, the commission ruled in favour of the objection and declared Munshi’s nomination invalid.
In Comilla-4, NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah is contesting the election as the candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami–led 11-party alliance.
