The Election Commission (EC) has declared 49 out of 53 nomination papers valid for the reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament.
NCP leader Monira Sharmin is among those whose nominations were cancelled, Returning Officer Md Moin Uddin Khan told reporters at EC auditorium this afternoon following the scrutiny of nomination papers.“An independent candidate’s nomination has been accepted. The BNP-led alliance submitted a list of 36 candidates, all of which were accepted. Jamaat-led alliance submitted 13 nominations; of these, 12 were valid and one was cancelled,” the returning officer said.
“If a nomination is cancelled during scrutiny, the seat will be declared open to all parties. The commission will announce a fresh schedule, and parties or alliances will nominate new candidates. Members of parliament will then elect the representative for that reserved seat,” he added.
