A digital lottery for admission to classes one through nine in government and private schools across the country will be held on December 11, the Secondary and Higher Education Division (SHED) has announced.
Professor Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, Director of the Secondary Branch of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), said applications for the lottery opened online on November 21 and will remain open until 5:00 pm on December 5. Only students selected through the lottery will be eligible for admission.
According to DSHE, a total of 4,048 government and private schools will admit students for the 2026 academic year, covering classes one through nine. Among them, 688 are government schools and 3,360 are private schools.
In total, there are 1,193,281 vacant seats, with 121,030 in government schools and 1,072,251 in private schools.
By November 25, 260,244 students had applied for the 121,030 seats in government schools, submitting a total of 375,728 preferences. In private schools, 98,762 students applied for 1,072,251 vacant seats, providing 180,862 preferences. No further updates on applications have been provided by DSHE since then.
