Bangladesh has formally requested the Indian government to extradite former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in a case involving crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising.
A source at the International Crimes Tribunal confirmed the development on Monday.According to the source, the request was sent to New Delhi through Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A copy of the ICT’s death sentence against Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was also attached to the official communication.
The extradition request follows the tribunal’s verdict in a case over alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July-August mass uprising.
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun were named as accused in the case.
